Portugal BABY!

(View from the balcony of our house)

Our second day in Portugal is coming to an end. We flew in yesterday into Lisboa. I would have considered it our first day, but we were so exhausted, it doesn’t really count. We landed at the Lisboa airport at about 9:45 am local time (in California time that would be 1:45 am-8 hours ahead). We drove straight from Lisboa into Ericeria (pronounced Ed-e-say-da) where we were staying, which is about a 45 minuet drive from Lisboa. Needless to say we fell asleep as soon as we got in. We napped until around dinner time, then walked down into the city center for some Magnum ice cream bars for Kevin & Tony. They are the equivalent to a Dove Bar, but 100 times better!

Today, Tuesday, we took the Metro back into Lisboa and walked around the city. It is a beautiful old European city with lots of gorgeous architecture, and statues. We spent most of the day shopping, taking pictures, eating, and struggling with the language, pretty much all the typical tourist-y stuff that needs to be done!

There is an H&M, so I bought a few things that I didn’t think to pack and really needed, like a sweater, since we are staying on the coast and didn’t realize it would get as cold as it did at night. This is my first time in a country where I do not speak the language, so I am very much out of my element since I love to talk! In every other country Tony and I have visited, we have had the luxury of speaking English with the locals. Good thing Maria gave us the book “Just Enough Portuguese”. Now I can say a few things like: thank you-“Obrigada” (o-bree-ga-da), that’s good/ I like it- “Esta bem” (schta-baim), good day- “Bom dia” (bom-dee-a), and excuse me/sorry- “Desculpa” (de-shcool-pa). Lets just hope I can remember it all!
