History Of Rock & Roll IV: Sounds of the 60's

It's that time of year again! Thats right, it's time for our now annual show titled the "History of Rock & Roll".

For the past 3 years we have done this show in a conglomeration of rock music starting from the "birth" of rock in the early 50's up to the modern hits in music of today. But this year we did it a little differently, and I think it's pretty cool! From the first "HORR" (as I call it), I dreaded this summer show because it is such a huge undertaking. It is known for its large casts, in the past shows there were upwards from 20-30 actors portraying at least 5 "characters" each. That's at least 150 different costumes at a minimum, per show.
Thankfully this year is different. Our director decided to set it only in the 1960's, and show the evolution of music within that decade. Each of the about 20 actors only play 1-2 characters, and have 1 "dancer" outfit. I do admit that costuming the first act was a bit of a challenge, because it was all black, white and gray scale. Finding black and white paisley material was hard!! But I am pretty proud of the outcome, and I hope this is show is our summer hit!!

Act 1 begins on a mock music show titled the "Big Boss Bash" meant to be reminiscent of "Shindig" and "Hullabaloo", and it is all in black and white. Act 2 is done similarly to the musical "Hair", set in a central park "hippie commune" done in Technicolor. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the acts, but one of my only critiques is that is seems like two completely different shows.

Here are some photos of Act 1. The "Big Boss Bash"!

"I'm Telling You Now" Freddy & the Dreamers

"Sunshine Superman" Donovan

The "Soap Opera" Medley

"England Swings" Roger Miller

"Ooh Baby, Baby" Smokey Robinson

"Rescue Me" Fontella Bass

"Secret Agent Man" Johnny Rivers

Act 2: Hippie Commune/HAIR

"HAIR" with Margaret Mead and husband Hubert

"Aquarius"
